Dedicating most of their lives to the defense of their country, the men and women of the US Armed Forces definitely needs some time off from their active duty. But if they are tight on budget, finding an accommodation can be a daunting task. Not if they can take advantage of military hotels.

There is a wide range of military hotels to choose from that can provide the business or pleasure accommodation needs of soldiers. All across the United States, they can find hotels that offer huge discounts. Military personnel need not pay for the full cost of board and lodging. They can look forward to savings of more than $10 every night.

From luxury hotels to suites, military personnel can surely find the right accommodation that suits them. Some condos offer special discounted price for those who want such kind of accommodation. In Disneyland, for example, there are several hotels there that have special discounts for military people.

In addition, there are hotels throughout the country that do not only offer special discounts for being a military personnel. They can look forward to more savings because there are places that offer discounted rates for those who plan to stay for an extended period of time.

However, many people in the military have the tendency to ignore or even inquire about the potential discounts that they are entitled to. In some establishments, they allow military people to take advantage of discounts that they can combine. For example, an Army sergeant who has a roadside assistance program can be eligible for special discounted rates in a hotel of their choice.

Likewise, some hotels give military men the opportunity to avail of double benefits. While there are some hotels that are against such policies, those in the military can still find establishment that offer double benefits. It just takes a little bit of research to find establishments that offers a good deal of savings for the vacationing soldier.

Finding hotels that offer discounted accommodation rates for those in the military is easy. All they have to do is search on the Internet. Searching on the Web will yield a listing of hotels throughout the country that offer special privileges to the men and women who dedicate their lives in service of the United States.
One may have a particular hotel they are considering which has been their favorite over the years or have always desired to stay at. They can always get in touch with them and inform the hotel that they are in the military and looking for discounts for service men and women.

Finding hotels serving military men and women is not difficult. Once they search long and hard, they will discover that there are many hotels that offer discounts to military people. Searching for discounted rooms or hotels may be time consuming but if they would put into consideration the potential savings, they would not mind going through the difficulty.
Searching for discounts can help a military man make the most out of their vacation. Since they have saved considerable money on their accommodation, they can use the money for some other things.

Years and years of being in the battlefield can be stressful for someone who is in the armed forces. Whenever they decide to have a break, service men can always count on military hotels to ensure an enjoyable and worthwhile vacation.

Slugging it Out the Military Style

There are various means by which conflicts are resolved. The usual thing to do to is sit and out and settle things amicably. There are also instances when debates sprout out into the open. Verbal arguments to prove each party’s claims go on and on until one actual proves that their claim is more reasonable. If the event or subject matter cannot be concluded in diplomatic terms, oh well there’s the conventional way of slugging it out. Fights can range from one to one or in very large groups. Well we all know the outcome is not really favorable for anyone. Let’s look out how the military carries itself while slugging it out with other organizations locally and around the globe.

The military was born in order to combat foes that pose as threat to national safety and security. As any group of people would want to do so, it set its cross-hairs into winning at all cost. It has been part of the military’s history to come out on top using every precise strategy and tactic under its wily sleeves. It is all about getting the win for the nation’s pride. How does the military from its blueprint of victory? Let us take a look at three levels in which the military molds itself in order to be a precise combating machine.

First on the list is getting the win using a well-founded strategy. Military strategy entails proper utilization and management of its resources during the times of local and global campaigns. The commander-in-chief is the one lucky enough to handle such arduous task. Within his grasp are military forces either that of the home team or neighboring international allied forces.

The army, navy, and the air force are at his disposal. Since a lot is at stake whenever mass security and national pride is at stake, this is not an overnight affair. Developing an effective strategy entails reviewing policies and certain implications including that which is on a global degree. The time span needed for coming up with such takes more than months or even years. The management of supplies and resources is the primary concern of military strategy. It involves mapping out a full-proof plan for the movements during the war itself.

After laying out the strategy, the military then inches its way into the battle itself. Operational mobility is now on the table. It plays along the lines of military doctrine. Communicating each command is the utmost concern in this dynamic concept. The formations for each level are highly important. Things to consider include the ability of the formation to stand on its own and to deliver on the mission it is required to accomplish.

Now, the military is face-to-face with its foe. Its time to bring on the tactics needed to bring the enemy down to its feet. This involves developing methods that are utilized in engaging the enemy in the forefront of war and coming out on top of the hill. These methods are usually employed by certain military units over a period of hours and days. There is emphasis on sticking to each specific order given.

There have been a lot of changes in terms of the usage of military tactics. The traditional method of having a large fleet swarm the enemy has been replaced by more precise surprise attacks and ambushes.

The military doesn’t just slug it out with the enemy; they have their own unique brand of fighting style.

Refreshing the Military

The military is a multi-sectored organization. It does not hold itself within the confinements of battle strategies and combat training. Another part of its objective is to extend its network all they way to other professionals. In fact, the military has what is called as the professional corps wherein doctors, nurses, lawyers, dentists, and even priests are members. Yes that is so. The word priest is mentioned.

Well, they are actually called chaplains. The military makes it a point that its members are well-oriented on the affairs of the church regardless of what religion they are in. Come with me and take a look at how the military is refreshed by His presence.

It all starts on the part of the military called military relations. This program makes sure that military personnel are able to receive the precious blessing of the Church. It is founded on four very significant concepts. The first one is that recruits of the military should have proper Church orientation. Second is that the members of the military should be supported by Church advocates in whatever place they are assigned to. Third would be that Church services can be extended to military personnel whenever they are not fit or unable to attend such activities and the last  is that there is encouragement chaplaincy in the different brands of the military.

Let me introduce you to the concept of military chaplaincy. As for any member of the military professional corps, a chaplain is hailed as an officer commissioned within the military. Chaplaincy is widely known in the force specifically in that of France and the US. The endorsement from the religious sector is needed in order to pursue a career in military chaplaincy. You may ask then, what really is the task of military chaplains? They are very vital in keeping the troops together, spiritually that is.

They serve as advisers that enrich the souls and minds. Moreover, they are the ones responsible for ensuring that there is a smooth flow of religious concerns within the perimeter of the organization. Chaplains are present wherever the troops head to. You can find these guys sweating it out during drills or even in the dangers of the battlefield.

The most important aspect of the chaplain’s duty is keeping the faith of the men and women in the military intact. They are the morale boosters especially in times of crisis. Chaplains work with individual troops and their families. This they accomplish in a certain fashion that would not discriminate religious beliefs and practices that are not part of their own while maintaining the integrity of their own ways.

Military chaplains operate an Ethical Code as prescribed by the National Ministry under the Military Force. They are expected to hold marriages and memorial services for family members. They make it a point that religious beliefs and relations are organized regardless of what circle you is in. They perform duties and responsibilities connected in teaching and counseling.

You may even see these dedicated fellows visiting military personnel and their family during sickness, detention, or even in the crossfire during war. One bit of information about chaplaincy is that when you engage in such profession you are allowed to have a family. More so, their family is part of the healing service they extend to the force.

The military is not always about the wild frenzies and avid shootings. There is a refreshing part of the military that you should always look forward to.

Military Fashion

Uniformity signifies solidarity within a group of people. Organizations and institutions normally encourage their members to wear garments having the same design in order to distinguish themselves from others. The military holds the same ideals. They fashion out into all sorts of uniform in order to show distinction and coordination. The military has come a long way since the old times when dresses and armors are the usual kind of clothing.

Presently, the military have adapted a brand of uniforms that are suitable for real-life action and combat under certain types of modern condition and environment. Brushing actual combat aside, military ceremonies and formal occasions showcase brightly-colored garments for band members and officers in attendance. During this time, members of elite and high-ranking units stand out by having distinctive features placed on their uniforms.

Even though the trend on military uniform production has tipped on the utilitarian side, most forces are still continuing to develop and create uniform designs of various types. These include ordinary duty uniforms, working garments, and dresses for ceremonial affairs. More and more members of the military have been used to wearing their uniforms even when off duty. Most are seen walking with their peers and enjoy the recognition they get as part of the military.

The military does not only set standards for uniform designs just for the sake of doing so. Each act and provision in the military has its purpose. There are four purposes on why the military has uniforms. First on the list is to differentiate and distinguish persons who are directly part of the hostilities. These combatants are mantled by the laws of war.

There are other persons who tend to carry firearms that do not have the same degree of protection. An old school purpose of these uniforms is for the so-called deserters to have a harder time modifying their military clothing in order to prevent being located and persecuted. The military in some sense dress to impress. Units having desirable and appealing uniforms have a higher rate of recruitment.

Young men are attracted to the fact that hey are easily noticed when wearing uniforms that are well-designed. Moving on, traditional uniforms come in bright colors in order to have better recognition of troops on the battlefield but now on the emergence of more precise and long-range firearms and rifles these old school brightly colored military outfits make the units and troops a very comfortable target.

Eventually the purpose of camouflaging was given more emphasis. There was a change in uniform colors that saw the birth of khaki colored uniforms. More so, the uniforms were designed so that they will blend nicely with the environment, say for instance terrains and forestry. Climate and area conditions were also taken into consideration as white and tan colors came into being. Logistics also plays a large role on the development of military uniforms.

Mass production resulted into a faster and more precise manner of giving military troops their own brand of clothing which came into standardized patterns and sizes. War was not only on the physical setting. Intimidation and mind games are essential tools in order to weaken the enemies’ morale thus the appearance and clothing of the troops underwent tremendous innovation.

Clothing is an essential part of living. It keeps us protected from the ever shifting blows of nature. It also gives us a personality that paves the way for uniqueness. Why not go further and use military fashion on a casual yet tasteful manner.

Military Brat

There is a saying that the fruit does not fall far from the tree. Usually children grow having the image of what their parents were like. In this manner, the lifestyle and behavior they have witnessed is commonly adapted during their adult life. This is how huge parents can affect the lives of their children. The profession of the parents is one of the common indicators on how much is spent with their child. In line with this matter, there is a concept developed with children whose parent or both parents work as regular employees in the military. These children have come to be tagged as military brats.

Although the term brat does not really give a positive notion, military brats are different. Let’s dig deeper and have a look. Basically, these children grow up while facing different life scenarios such as high risk of parental loss due to war, the presence of a military-oriented family, a strict rule of authority, dominance of patriarchal decision-making, absence of a parent in school activities, and frequent moving in various destinations. Being able to live under military culture can provide advantages to the growing individual. As an adult, military brats can show indications of their nomadic way of life.

Since they move a lot in a frequent manner, they are able to reach places and be accustomed with different cultures as compared to other growing children living in a regular environment. The depth of experience they have during childhood and puberty is unmatched. The problem that may then arise is that since transition from one place or people to another is so fast, these military brats tend to have a hard time building relationships with people and places that really lasts.

They have the propensity to isolate themselves away from the usual civilized way of life. At times the result can be devastating psychological developmental disorders. But it’s good to note that most cases end up having the capacity to adapt and assimilate themselves into the normal way of life in a community.

Growing up in a life and family that revolves around the military is no walk in the park nevertheless it really offers a lot more in the experience area as compared to living with a more geographically stable group. Military brats are described as independent extroverts. They are more outgoing as compared to their contemporaries and can readily deal with any change that may come their way.

They have an easier time relating with other people even though differences in religion, nationality, race, and ethnicity is present. This is due mainly to the frequency of travel from different destinations. When it comes to performance, military brats can brag about what they can produce.

They have higher IQ levels, achievement scores, and higher percentage of making it into college as opposed to their civilian counterparts. There are mixed research outcomes when it comes to abuse and alcoholism in families that revolve around the military. But the bottom line is family’s having members in the military acquire more benefits than that of civilian families with low incomes. Military families have health care programs as well as housing and family support benefits.

Even though they may be tagged with the word brat, these military brats have had a long ride. Eventually this long ride will end with good fortune en route to a life full of values and success.

Investigating US Military Funding

The US military funding is that portion of the Federal discretionary budget allocated for the Defense Department. It is responsible for paying the salaries, training, and healthcare needs of both uniformed and civilian personnel. Likewise, the budget is used for the maintenance of weapons, equipments and infrastructure, and operations as well as the development and purchase of new equipments. It is allocated for the five branches of service.

This year, the base budget of the US Armed Forces increased to $515.4 billion. If emergency discretionary and supplemental expenditures are added, it will increase to $651.2 billion. The figure does not include most military-related tasks not include in the DND budget such as nuclear weapons research, production and maintenance, Veterans Affairs, interests on debt accrued in previous wars. As of this year, the total spending of the government on defense-related purposes is $1 trillion per year.

The US defense funding is the biggest in the world. In 2007, the DOD had a base budget amounting to $431.7 billion. During the War on Terrorism, an extra $169.2 billion was requested for its operations purpose. With the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008, Congress authorized the release of $688.6 billion to the national defense funds.

A year later, the requested based budget for the Department of Defense rose by 11.1% to $479.5 billion. With the $189.1 billion supplemental funding for the War on Terrorism, the total budget for national defense was $668.6 billion. In 2009, expenditures for national defense saw a sustained growth. The base budget request went up to $515.4 billion, allocation for the War on Terrorism was at $70 billion and supplemental spending was at $65 billion.

Among the different branches of service, the US Air Force had the biggest allocation at $143.9 billion, followed by the Army at $140.7 billion. The Navy and the Marine Corps had an allocation of $124.4 billion and $24.9 billion, respectively. Defense wide expenditures had a total allocation of $81.6 billion.

Operations and maintenance had the biggest allocation among the various military functions at $179.8 billion. Personnel services received $125.2 billion, procurement got $104.2 billion while research and development efforts received $79.6 billion. Military construction and family housing were allocated $21.9 and $2.9 billion, respectively. A total of $2.7 billion was allocated as revolving funds.

The major defense programs of the US Armed Forces also received a huge chunk of the budget. A total of $4.1 billion was allocated for the F-22 Raptor, a next generation fighter, which is set to release 20 additional planes for 2009. Still in its developmental stages, the F-35 Lightning II received $6.7 billion worth of allocation. The funding will be utilized for the construction of sixteen planes.

Aside from that, the development of the Future Combat System had an allocation of $3.6 billion. The procurement of missile defense systems such as the Patriot CAP, PAC-3, and SBIRS-High, got $12.3 billion. The establishment of a third missile defense facility somewhere in Europe received $720 million worth of allocation.

The continuation of the Aircraft Carrier Replacement Program was funded for $4.2 billion. An additional $389 million for the AFRICOM system was requested the development and maintenance of the said command. As part of its War on Terrorism, the expansion of the Army and Marine Corps as well as the recruitment, training, and maintenance of the National Guards and Reserves, received allocations amounting to $20.5 and $49.1 billion, respectively.

The US military funding is a living testimony on why the United States remains as one of the most formidable military in the world.

An Overview of the US Military

The US military was established by the Second Continental Congress for the purpose of defending the new state against the British Empire at the height of the American Revolution. In 1775, in the light of the Declaration of Independence a year later, the Army, Marine Corps, and Navy were commissioned.

Originally integrated with the Revenue Cutter Service, the US Coast Guard was established in 1790. Later on the United States Life Saving Service joined forces with the Revenue Cutter Service to comprise the Coast Guard. At present, it is under the wings of the Department of Homeland Security. In case of war, however, the Coast Guard can be transferred to the command of the Navy by the President or Congress. The Air Force used to be integrated with the Army as the US Army Air Corps until it became independent in 1947.

Since its establishment, the US Armed Forces had played a key role in American history. A matter of national unity and identity was agreed upon from the Barbary Wars and War of 1812. However, the Founding Fathers aroused suspicions on the establishment of a permanent military force. It was only until the onset of the Second World War that an official peacetime army was created.

The President of the United States acts as the commander-in-chief. The Department of Defense, headed by a Secretary, functioned as the main organ for implementing military policies. With the September 11 attacks, the Department of Homeland Security was established. The function of this new civilian agency was to coordinate and consolidate internal threats to the United States.

Comprising of nearly 3 million personnel, half of which are reservists, the US Armed Forces is considered as one of the biggest militaries in the world in terms of manpower. Most of its personnel were derived from volunteer service and works to maintain professionalism in the force. With annual expenditures amounting to $711 billion, it comprises 50 percent of military spending in the world. It boasts of having huge amount of advanced and powerful weapons, giving them considerable capability in projecting defense and power.

The National Security Council, headed by an advisor, is tasked with coordinating military action and diplomacy. Holding an advisory position is the Joint Chiefs of Staff, consisting of the different heads of the service branches.

As of 2008, women service members are not allowed to volunteer as members of ground forces and on submarines. They can, however, perform duties as military police, fighter pilots, and crew on combat ships.

With the enactment of the "Don't ask, Don't tell" Law, members of the GLB (gays, lesbians, bisexuals) can join the military as long as they keep their sexual orientation secret. The government is likewise prohibited from asking members of the military and possible recruits regarding their sexual orientation. Its implementation in 1993 led to the dismissal of thousands of service members when their sexual orientation was revealed to the military.

From the 1990s to the 2000s, the implementation of the two policies was subjected to high-profile controversies. Proponents of military necessity and special requirements of combat as well as critics denying military necessity and considering the policies as unjustified discrimination.

As of 2008, US service members were deployed in over 820 installations in 39 countries. At 142,000 personnel, the Iraq contingent is the largest. However, the number of personnel may regularly change due to continuous recall and deployment. Within the United States, more than 1 million members of the US military are on active duty with more than 800,000 stationed in different military bases in Continental United States.

A Look at the US Military Structure

The present structure of the US Military is a product of the National Security Act of 1947. The new law calls for the reorganization of the Armed Forces and Intelligence Services as part of the lessons of World War II.  It established the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and National Security Council. It also called for the creation of the Air Force as a separate branch of service and changed the name of the War Department into the Department of Defense.

The Department of Defense is under a civilian head appointed by the President, who acts as the Commander-in-Chief. The Army, Air Force, and Navy Departments fall is headed by civilian heads as well. The three heads of these departments are under the supervision of the Secretary of Defense.
There are five branches in the US Armed Forces—the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. The heads of each branch make up what the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JSC), along with the Vice Chairman and Chairman of JCS, which is nominated by the President and up for approval by the Senate. The Coast Guard is under the Department of Homeland Security. However, in times of war, this branch of service becomes part of the Navy.

The US Army serves as the principal ground forces in the United States. It is the oldest branch of service, having been created by the Continental Congress in 1775. The Army is likewise the largest, with 76,000 officers and 401,000 enlisted personnel. It is tasked with defending the country using ground troops, armor, artillery, tactical nuclear weapons, and others.  It is supported by a couple of Reserve Forces which can be activated anytime.

The Air Force is the youngest branch, created only in 1947 via the National Security Act. It primary duty is defense of the United States using air and space. Likewise, it is also charged with operating and protecting military satellites as well as strategic nuclear ballistic missiles. It has 69,000 commissioned officers and 288,000 enlisted personnel. It is also supported by an Air Force Reserve and Air Force National Guard, which can be activated anytime.

Along with the Army, the Navy was established in 1775. Its main responsibility is to safeguard the freedom of the seas. Its job is to make sure that US waters can be used when national interest calls for it. In times of war, the Navy supplements the air power of the Air Force. Aircraft carriers can be deployed to areas where fixed runways are unlikely. Likewise, it is the job of the Navy to transport Marines to areas of conflict. It has 54,000 officers and 324,000 enlisted men. It also has Naval Reserves but no National Guard. However, some states have created their own Naval Militias.

The Marine Corps have often been called as the “Infantry of the Navy.” Their main responsibility is amphibious operations. They specialize in assault, capture, and control of beach heads paving the way for routes for enemy attack from any point. It was established as an independent service in 1798. Although their main responsibility is amphibious operations, they have been doing ground operations lately. Being considered as a “lighter” force, the Marine Corps is capable of immediate deployment.

They are self sufficient so they have their own air capability, made up of attack helicopters and fighter aircrafts. However, for logistics and administrative support, they depend heavily on the Navy. The medics accompanying the Marines are combat ready Navy medics. There are 18,000 officers and 153,000 enlisted men in the Marine Corps.

These are the various service branches of the US military tasked to defend the United States at all times.

A Promising Future

Living The Military Life

The popular belief is that working in the military and leading a military life is the most soul-crushing experience that you could probably have in your life. It's a belief that's been propagated by the stereotypical images that we see on TV shows and movies. It's not exactly a complete lie. A whole lot of training throughout his military career goes in to creating a good and dedicated soldier and some of this training is to break the individual and turn him into a cog in a machine.

That isn't exactly bad. Most companies emphasize the need for an employee to be a part of his corporate team, but the big difference here is that a soldier-a military man- is not part of a corporate team. He's part of a team that is focused on mostly defeating an enemy, mostly through very violent means. Teaching someone the killer instinct can be very dangerous. Make no bones about it - there are some pretty frightening men in military uniform.

The army filters out the psychos and to instills a sense of honor in its ranks but you still find the odd military freak who has slipped through the cracks. Sounds creepy but you have to understand that national defense is a serious business. George Orwell best put it when he said that men slept well in the assurance that there were some big, dangerous men willing to do violence in his name.

But then soldiers aren't all cold-blooded killing machines. I've known quite a few soldiers who did it right and are living pretty good lives. One of the overriding principles of being a good soldier is discipline, and no life has ever suffered from having too much discipline. Quite a few kids who started out on the wrong side of tracks had their heads put on straight a tour in the army. Having esprit de corps and the ability to control yourself can go a long way. The sense of personal pride helps too. Young men who enter basic training at an army camp are molded into soldiers who would obey orders and who would willingly sacrifice themselves to save their comrades and their country.

Of course, people don't enter the military to improve themselves. The usual reason for entrance into the armed forces is a chance to escape poverty. The military provides excellent education and benefits for those underprivileged individuals who would not be able to ordinarily support themselves. A solid source of income with low entry requirements is usually what they need and the military can provide this in spades.

High school kids from rural areas and townships often take a tour or two to earn themselves some seed money for the future and give themselves a vocational education that they would normally not have. For the lucky few who reach officer rank, military scholarships are also available to any soldier who wants it.

There are risks, of course. Being a soldier is a very high-risk occupation, especially now in these dangerous times. It used to be that a young American could expect a quiet time in the military, punctuated by bouts of training to keep in tip-top condition. Actually, there are still people who have that life, supporting the troops via performing logistical operations and other things that make sure that a modern army keeps on moving. However, the risks of combat encounters are higher now and being in the Army can be a stressful time for anyone. All in all, a Military Life can actually put your life on the line.

Life in the military may not be as devastating as it has been shown by Hollywood, but it's still definitely a risky proposition. But do remember, the taxpayer pays your salary and you repay his trust by putting your life on the line so that he can sleep in peace.

You will not find an exhaustive list of ad-posting schemes, pyramid schemes, chain letters, cash gifting offers, or other well known schemes.

You will not find commercial advertisements disguised as job ads.

At Homejobstop

You will find a wide variety of job opportunities including  freelance and contract opportunities as well as FT and PT positions in both entry-level and professional-level work.

The Homejobstop Job Bank is one the few job boards on the Internet that successfully maintains a support-based structure that is completely free of commercial advertising.  All content is manually verified and approved before appearing in the Job Bank. We do not accept paid ads on our job board.  We don't make outrageous claims, and we do not permit outrageous claims to enter our Job Bank.

Homejobstop has been in operation for over 11 years. With thousands of satisfied members to date, our dedication to quality content has earned us a respectable reputation and the honor of being the Internet's most popular destination for today's working families.
