The US Defense Forces: A Great Career

Potential Careers After Military School West Point is an educational institution that is designed to provide training and education to cadets who are eligible to be commissioned as officers in the U.S. Army after they graduate. A cadet should devote 8 years-5 on active duty and 3 to the Reserved Forces if you opt not to pursue active duty. While a West point graduate can choose to be commissioned to a service of their choice, they can also look forward to other careers after military school. One of the primary options for a graduate is to join the U.S. Army as an officer in one of its branches. The selection should be done during the fourth year. The graduate can opt for commissioning in the combat arms branch like the Infantry, Armor, Air Defense Artillery, Field Artillery, and Aviation or Combat Engineers. Likewise, they can join in one of the combat support branches such as Chemical or Military Intelligence, Military Police, or Signal. In addition, a West Point graduate can also enter combat service support branches as a Quartermaster, Adjutant General, Finance, Ordnance, or Transportation. There are also careers waiting for them in the Medical Service Corps or Judge Advocate General Corps. Depending on their skills, the graduate can look forward to being promoted to positions offering bigger responsibilities. After being commissioned as an officer, a West Point graduate can have an opportunity to lead the male and female personnel of the United States Army. They can be in charge of the front line personnel or work in the support personnel. The official website of the U.S. Army provides a thorough explanation of these services. West Point has the reputation of having recorded the highest acceptance rate in any educational institution in the United States. Since 9/11, West Point has an acceptance rate of 85%, which is higher than Harvard or Princeton. This is a reflection of how serious and knowledgeable applicants of West Point are. In addition, the military school has a 75 to 80% graduation rate of those who are admitted to the school in four years. This is higher than the 50% national average for the last six years.

Acing the Military Way

Acing the Military Way
Education and practice are very important cogs in boosting the personality and individuality of a person. It is always said that education is the one treasure you can carry up to the point when you’re six feet under. Every lesson instilled in your mind and heart is used to generate every life-supporting means possible. In line with this matter, let me help you rediscover the significance of educating yourself by focusing on how the military refines itself by offering the best kind of training to its personnel. If you are willing enough, allow me to present how you can ace things up the military.

The military works in a very systematic manner. This can be seen on how it essentially works in order to make its personnel the best professionals in the world not only physically or mentally but in all aspects as well. The members of the military undergo a rigid process of continuous training and education. Its very objective is founded on the aim of defining each personnel specifically in the role they have to endure as part of each branch. This said process can be dictated upon by the institution or may solely depend on the willingness of the individual to improve.

Authorization is of utmost importance before you can engage in military primary training. A full medical and physical examination is done before you can go out in the field and do your thing. Whether it is a simple task of relaying information to your commander or handling sophisticated weaponry, you must have proper recommendation first. Once you have complied with the examinations and made it through, that’s the time you start the initial training. This is where the real party starts.

The recruits undergo various drills and activities that will truly take your mind and body to their limits. The instructor handling the budding members is tasked to give out basic technical information that is necessary for achieving military purposes. This is like early years in college in preparation for the fields you want to major in. As for the military you can go in many ways. There are a lot of options.

It is a must in order to have a meaningful military career for you to harness yourself and grasp a specialization whether it is in the army, navy, or air force. It is a very exciting phase because you will be acquainted with the organization’s wide range of network and technology. There is an abundant list of military educational institutions across the globe. Normally the ones that make it become officers and have the opportunity to access further learning opportunities in order to become high-ranking officials.

There are two very essential aspects of military training. The first one is hand-to-hand combat. This art of battling go way back during the Roman times. Military personnel are trained through a craft known as wrestling. Essentials in this practice include masterful balance; agility; dexterity and grip strength; thrusting power; high level of endurance, stamina, of course strength; well-calculated reaction; and above all unity and oneness. The other one is resocialization.

It involves harnessing the individual in all aspects in order to increase viability and survival in an unknown environment. There are two mechanisms involved which are establishing the person as part of a joint force while in active service and helping that person be accustomed to civilian life once discharge comes into the picture.

Life in the military is never a bed of roses. These people constantly make it a point that their day is about acing the military way.

A Look At The Military in Business

A Look at the Military in Business

The members of the United States Armed Forces have committed their lives to the defense of the sovereignty of their country. They have made themselves the protector of the state from all its enemies, whether foreign or domestic. However, some people may not be aware of the fact that the military have also made their presence felt in the business sector. Read on and find out for yourself the influence of the military in business.

One of the major contributions of the military in the world of business is in the area of weapons research and development. It is continuously immersed in research and development in order to come up with a better method of improving national defense as well as provide improved solutions to battling potential risks to national security and safety. The military allocates and spends millions of dollars for the purpose of advancing military technology. Most of these technologies have found their way in the hands of civilians as business minded individuals have found these technologies applicable to their business.

These days, you can easily find computers being manufactured in various shapes and sizes. Most of them are used for gathering data for information management as well as for personal use. The ancestor of modern day computers was intended for military purposes in 1944. Designed by a Harvard University professor, the Mark I was a room-sized computer built for computing missile trajectories. Eventually, computers found its way to the world of civilians. By the 1970s, desktop computers have been used by the general public.

Cellular communications technology, which is very popular among individuals nowadays, was also initially designed for military purposes. Now, cellular phones have become a necessity and it is now possible to contact another person anytime anywhere.

In addition, the military also pioneered in the field of air transport. When the Wright brothers proved that it was possible to control flight, the military went on to build aircrafts for the purpose of war. This paved the way for the construction of airplanes for transporting civilians. Most commercial aircrafts are now making use of fly by wire technology originally intended for fighter planes.

Undoubtedly one of the most widely used and popular military technology that has found its way in the civilian world is the World Wide Web. At first, the Internet was intended to be used for interconnecting the various branches of the military. Now, the business sector has greatly benefited from this technology making it easier for them to globalize their business.

The military has a huge budget allocated for research and development spending. They are among the top sectors in the field of technological research and development initially designed for military purposes. The civilian and business sector has made great strides because of technologies developed by the military.

The field of communications, transportation, information management, and production line automation are just some of the sectors that have greatly benefited from military technology. These advancements have changed the way companies conduct their business. With one click of a button, companies have successfully merged their businesses and became interconnected with one another.

The contributions of the military in business have enabled companies to move forward and take their business to the next level. If not for the efforts put up by the military, the idea of globalization is still far fetched.

Understanding Military Jargon

Military Jargon: The Way The Military Talks

Considering entering the military service? If you are, the very first thing that you need to learn is the language that soldiers speak. As you spend more time in your school or preferred branch of service, you will slowly learn how to speak and understand military jargon.

The Military way of communication is structured around its unique terms of spech-its jargon! Firstly, it is full of acronyms and abbreviations. Consider AAR. AAR is an acronym for After Action Review. All actions done in the Army must conclude with an AAR to point out lessons to enhance performance in succeeding operations.

Strangely, in military exercises and games, opposing forces are always named Blue and Red. This example of jargon does not stop here. "Blue on Blue" is a code that means an incident occurred as a result of friendly fire. "Red on Red" means hostile forces are not getting along with each other.

Another military jargon you need to learn is combined and joint. The former refers to a command consisting of forces from more than one country. The latter refers to forces consisting of more than one branch of service. If armies from Australia and the United States are together in one command, it is combined. If the Marines substituted the Australian forces, this is a joint command. And there is every likelihood to see  combined and joint forces simultaneously.

Concealment represents something that keeps you from being seen by your enemies. A cover, on the other hand, serves as protection so you would not be hit.

EPW stands for Enemy Prisoner of War. POW is an acronym for Privately Owned Weapon. POV is an acronym for Privately Owned Vehicle. FA is initials for Field Artillery, which distinguishes the Army from the Boy Scouts.

Formation is a term that denotes the unit having to assemble into a standard position, such as a rectangle. During a formation, the troops will remain in their places for inspections, speeches, roll calls, or to prepare the soldiers for future use. In a marching formation, when the troops are about to cross the road, some soldiers will be dispatched to block the traffic. They are then called Road Guards.

Gun refers to a specific kind of artillery tube. Rifle is a handheld weapon that is pointed at the enemy. BRM stands for Basic Rifle Marksmanship, which can be obtained through constant practice at the rifle range.

The Main Supply Route (MSR) is the direction which supplies and replacements are headed. There is also an Alternate Supply Route (ASR). OPFOR means Opposing Force, which is a friendly unit responsible for being the opponent in a training event. Ironically, the OPFOR sometimes stands for real enemies.

PT is an acronym for Physical Training and not Practical Torture. ROE are the Rules for Engagement that can be modified from time to time as a reaction of the chain of command to varying situations. It can vary from one theater to another. Serious soldiers need to adhere and understand Rules of Engagement.

SNAFU stands for Situation Normal, All Farked Up. On the other hand, JANFU means Joint Army/Navy Fark Up. FUBAR is an acronym for Farked Up Beyond All Recognition.

SOF represented the elite Special Operations Forces. They are popularly known as Commandoes. And then, TLAR is an acronym for That Looks About Right.

In order to survive in their world, it is important for a soldier to understand military jargon.  This way, you will be able to speak the language of the military.

Young Military Blood

                                               Young Military Blood

Isn’t it nice to go back in time and enjoy the benefits of being a child? Imagine yourself with no worries and free from the hustles of maintaining a hectic work schedule not to mention having to pay bills on time. Can you still recall those days that you only have to wake up, get a nice ward breakfast, prepare yourself, and head on to school?

Boy those days were simple and well a thing of the past. Even though you’ve past your time as a child, you’re pretty lucky you had the chance to enjoy it. There are children around the world that are victims of war. They are forced to hold a gun or trade their innocence in order to survive. Hold you breathe as we journey into the lives of the young military blood.

It’s sad to note that children are abused by the military in three different ways. The first one is that they are forced to gear up and play child soldiers. Now, it isn’t so bad not having that toy you wanted when you were ten, is it now? Next they are utilized as having some sort of supportive task such as relaying messages, delivering goods from camp to camp, acting out as spies and look outs and well, for the young girls out in the open they become slaves sexually.

The third and most gruesome form of abuse is that children are used as for political agendas and human protection by those good for nothing cowards in the military. All over the world these things actually happen. Some of the common places wherein this despicable act is found in Africa, Asia, Northern and Latin America, Europe, and in the Middle East particularly in Palestine and Israel. Well, the act of having children participate in military affairs is not really new.

It is written within the pages of history that most cultures have been doing it even against the bounds of morality. Let’s take a closer look. It was a common practice in the Mediterranean for children to act as armor bearers, helpers, and even charioteers for their adult counterparts. During the antiquity period, children were ordered to tag along the journey of a family wherein a member is part of the military. This makes them susceptible to attacks that may be staged along the way.

Squires or military helpers were famous during the time Medieval Period in Europe. These are commonly composed of boys aged twelve and above. There was the Children’s Crusade in which children served as untrained soldiers who head on to battle under the notion that they will be protected by divine power. Most of the children in this event in history ended up as slaves. During the Battle of Waterloo, the ‘great’ Napoleon ordered children to be placed on the front ranks of the attack. What sort of gun did they carry? No guns.

They served as drummer boys that signalled the attack of the Emperor’s troops. They were simply gunned down during the battle. When the wars were taken to the seas, children were also dragged away. Young boys were tasked to bring powder and shot to the ship’s artillery crew. They were tagged as powder monkeys. These are only mere examples of what children around the globe experience due to the unending power struggle.

You may mumble how life is so tiring and unfair amidst those high stacks of paper works on your desk but you’re really lucky to have had a good childhood memory as opposed to those who are part of the young blood of the military.

Work Your Way into Military Muscles

The military owes its strength from the men and women who are continuously working to make themselves better with each passing day. Being part of the military is no joke because you have to make sure that you maintain a high level of fitness physically and psychologically. But do you ever wonder how soldiers keep their bodies in tip-top condition? Ponder no more because here are some ideas straight from the barracks in order for you to work your way towards those bulging military muscles.

Lives are often at stake when the military moves especially in combat. This is why physical fitness is of utmost importance. It is helpful in making any military personnel ready for the demands of duty. Troops undergo what is called as Physical Training or PT tests. The battalion commander is in charge of making sure that the each personnel from every military brand is able and ready to take on the rigorous challenges of the test.

Fitness is not only tested in strength and speed. Responsiveness is also a factor to be considered. Members of the military should be able to act accordingly regardless of the location or time involved. Speaking of time, personnel are advised to kick off their physical fitness regimen six months or more before engaging into the training proper. The battlefield is no place for people who are entirely out of shape. It demands a lot from the body wherein at times you have to carry different sorts of equipment and supplies for long distances. You may even have to move an injured partner during an encounter. The military follows a well-founded routine in order to keep its member firmly stable.

The physical fitness program involves different aspects such as muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and of course the ever tiring but rewarding cardiovascular workouts. There are different principles that correlates with those mentioned above namely regularity, progression, balance, overload, adequate recovery, variety, and specificity.

It is best that when undergoing different workouts and exercises you must formulate a schedule that will coincide with your other activities. The time and place for your routine depends entirely on your preferences. It is recommended that workouts are on a five-day per week schedule.

Cardio exercises can be combined with muscle strengthening and endurance workouts. The important thing is to set the days on which to do the routines in order to ensure that equilibrium and balance in the workouts are achieved. Don’t forget to go through warming up and cooling down. These practices decrease the chances of having injuries. The flexibility aspect of the regimen is also an integral effect of warming up and cooling down.

Apart from the rigid military exercises, FITT is also an important cog in its physical fitness program. It includes frequency, intensity, type, and time. Frequency entails that the workout should be done five days in a week. Intensity indicates how hard your body is working. You can use you heart rate to measure intensity. 60-90 percent maximum heart rate is the suggested optimum level. Time demand for cardio exercises is 20-30 minutes while strength and conditioning is measured by the number of repetitions. Muscular endurance requires more repetitions while strength calls for fewer reps.

Being fit and trim is not developed on an overnight basis. It comes with discipline, dedication, and hard work. So if you feel you’re pretty banged up and out of shape, start your day right and work your way into military muscles.

The Military Saves for the Rainy Days

It is but natural that along the journey you may encounter all sorts of detours that may prolong or even hinder the journey itself. That is why it is always best to be ready and alert all the time. You must recognize the fact that along each turn you may need additional resources. As they say it is a must to save for the rainy days. This holds true for the military. The fact that each scenario can bring about twisting changes and conflicts makes it more than a standard operation for this organization to be able to have a unit on which reinforcement can be gathered. The military with its rich and abundant resources still has what is known as its reserve. Let’s find out what a military reserve is.

Basically, a military reserve is composed of a number of personnel and units which are not really tapped to be part of a present situation. They are also known as a tactical or strategic reserve. This means that when unforeseen conflicts and instances begin to make its way into the battlefield they are the ones being called for to act. Opportunities in which they are very useful are grabbed by the commanding officer.

They may act to relieve troops that have been initially fighting to provide fresh reinforcements and at other times there is weak point seen on the enemy and they are ones competent enough to get the job done. The idea of having reserves can be attributed to the time when the Romans conceptualized a battle tactic in which the less experienced and efficient soldiers stood in front of the charging or defending troops. The initial row of Roman soldiers was backed up by a unit composed of more seasoned veterans.

During that time, it was a very glorifying achievement to be placed on the third ranks. This denoted a promotion into a higher status as a soldier. It was a widely used mechanism of battle to let the weak members of the Roman herd stray into battle and let the more competent ones deliver the death blow whenever the opportunity presents itself. Yes I know what you’re thinking. It’s pretty unfair for those on the front ranks. Well that’s how war works.

Reserves are placed at various levels of command. They may even be slated in different headquarters in order to systematically distinguish their levels of engagement. Reserves can go as small as a simple company and can even extend as big as that of a whole brigade. The deployment of the reserves takes time to master and is very significant in predicting the outcome of the action itself.

Commanders must make it a point that the timing of tapping the reserves into action is right on the dot. In order to minimize unwanted outcomes and casualties the common action is that only part of the reserves is mobilized. The whole reserve is only deployed during times of an all-out crisis situation. An example of which is when there is exact uncertainty that the forces are not enough to bring the enemy down.

Tactical deployment also involves sending reserves to certain areas tagged as hotspots anywhere around the globe in order to provide reinforcement for the initial units placed. There is a common misconception that the members of the reserves are the weak link in the military unit. Well, in fact the reserves are the ones having the finest skills and hi-tech weaponry.

Whether you’re in the military or not always remember it pays to save for the rainy days.
